What is SeniorNet®?

SeniorNet® is a national nonprofit membership organization for people 55 and over who use computer technology to increase their personal knowledge, enhance their talents and share their wisdom. SeniorNet operates SeniorNet Learning Centers in local communities across the nation where classes in computer technology and software applications are taught.

What can I learn to
do in SeniorNet® classes?

SeniorNet® classes focus on teaching how to use the computer as a tool for practical applications. Classes are small and feature hands-on activities. Classes are for older adults with no previous computer experience and are designed to be enjoyable and "user friendly" class instructors are, generally, other professional retirees.

Classes

Introduction to Computers

SeniorNet®  Introduction to Computers is an introduction to the vocabulary related to computers and also provides guidance in taking the first steps to use a computer.

Word Processing

Word processing is like writing with a personal assistant standing by. You type as usual and see what you are writing on the computer screen. You can move sentences and paragraphs to make improvements. When all is as you like it, push a couple of keys and you get a printout of what you have created.

Spreadsheets

Computer spreadsheets provide a powerful tool for managing either business or personal finances. You will learn how to put information into a spreadsheet so that the computer will do the calculating for you. The lessons in SeniorNet® Spreadsheet focus on developing a home budget, balancing your checkbook, preparing tax information, or handling anything that's based on numbers.

Databases

In the SeniorNet® Databases class you will learn ways to keep information in your life organized by creating databases of information. For example, you may store friends' and relatives' names, addresses and birthdays. You can print out address labels and lists of names for organizations to which you belong.
