Community outreach is implemented through various outlets of communication, special events and special publications. In trying to educate, inform and keep the senior citizens of Northwest Ohio involved in the community, the Area Office on Aging sponsors and organizes many successful endeavors.

For over 25 years, the Area Office on Aging has sponsored Senior Citizens Day on the third Tuesday in May. Celebrating Older Americans Month, more than 4,000 attendees enjoy live entertainment, lunch and browse exhibits.

Senior safari is held every September at the famous Toledo Zoo. Seniors park and attend the Zoo for free and enjoy the animals, a BBQ chicken lunch and health screenings.

AOoA also helps seniors celebrate the holidays with the Senior Citizens Holiday Party a few weeks before Christmas. Close to 2,000 festive attendees come together for lunch, live entertainment and a visit from Santa.

Many of these senior events are made possible through the support of the Lucas County Senior Nutrition Program and corporate sponsors and volunteers.
