Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is part of the Corporation
for National and Community Service, the federal domestic volunteer agency. It's sponsored by the Area Office on
Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc.
Provides a program through which older adults (age 55 and over) contribute
their time, talent and expertise to
volunteer in their own communities. Its volunteers number nearly half a million nationwide, service non-profit
organizations giving 64 million hours of service each year.
Who can join RSVP?
Anyone 55 or older is eligible to become an RSVP volunteer, regardless of education, experience or income. Once volunteers have agreed to an activity that suits their interest, they will receive a brief orientation from the RSVP staff, as well as additional instruction and supervision at the volunteer site.
What do volunteers do?
RSVP . . .
. . .fits volunteer opportunities to older adults' specific interests and needs, which are as diverse as volunteer
themselves,
. . .volunteers choose what they want to do, where they want to serve, and how their schedule will be arranged,
. . .volunteers can choose to serve in positions that make use of skills they already have, or they may choose
positions in
which they acquire new skills,
. . .volunteers share the wealth of knowledge accumulated
through the years,
. . .volunteers help others---they can become vital members of a non-profit agency and contribute to the growth
of a community.
What participating agencies
have to say. . .
"Volunteers are our lifeblood --- our work
would be severely limited without the volunteers' many talents."
Ruth Moeller
Lutheran Social Services
"Older adults share wisdom and unique experiences,
plus their belief in the value of education and the importance of each student."
