Senior Centers, Inc. (SCI) provides programs and services to residents of Lucas County, particularly those living in central Toledo. We strive to be a welcoming, safe and clean space for seniors to gather for both fun and support.
SCI is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to serve older members of the community by providing programs and services which enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their involvement in the community.

Founded in the 1970’s by the Community Planning Council of Northwest Ohio Community, SCI serves as sponsoring agency for the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) which is a volunteer opportunity for low-income senior citizens. FGP volunteers are trained and placed in a school or community agency to work with special needs children. All volunteers work approximately 20 hours per week and receive an hourly volunteer stipend and daily travel meal allowance.

SCI hosts a variety of activities including educational speakers, an active book club, entertainment programs, health screenings, exercise classes, and games including billiards, cards and bingo. The center has a ceramics room, computer lab and sewing/crafts room.

Lunches are provided through our partner Mobile Meals of Toledo, with a suggested donation of $2.50 per meal for senior participants. This dining/nutrition program is funded in part by the Older Americans Act.
SCI provides advocacy and outreach services to help senior participants find solutions to particular needs or problems. Some of these services include assistance with residential issues, help with light cleaning, referrals for eligibility to programs such as Medicaid/Medicare, SSI, SNAP benefits (food stamps), HEAP and other utility programs, Prevent Blindness Ohio, and assistance with applying for reduced fare TARTA passes and TARPS. With our partner, SeaGate Food Bank, SCI serves as a Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) location on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 9:30-11:00 AM. CSFP provides eligible recipients a monthly box of food containing a combination of juice, canned fruit, canned vegetables, unsweetened cereal, pasta, milk, instant milk, cheese, canned meat, beans, and peanut butter.
